Middleboro, MA. December 19, 2004 — Just 8 months after Homes for Our Troops was founded, the organization that builds specially adapted homes for severely disabled veterans will hold their very first ground breaking ceremony for Sgt. Peter Damon’s home building project. This will be the first of many handicapped accessible home building and home adaptation projects by Homes for Our Troops for our severely injured veterans. The ceremony will be held at the house lot located at 3a Benson Rd, Middleboro, MA at 1:00 p.m.

The brainchild of contractor John Gonsalves, Homes for Our Troops was founded when John wanted to donate his time and building expertise to help with a project for a soldier and quickly realized that there was no organization in the USA to provide this type of assistance for our severely injured troops.

As the number of severely injured troops from our current wars continues to rise, Homes for Our Troops has been contacted by family, friends and acquaintances of many more soldiers in need. The soldiers are proud and do not ask for anything in return, but people who care for them have contacted us telling us of their desperate situation resulting from their injuries. These injuries to our soldiers include loss of limbs, spinal cord injuries and full or partial paralysis making life as they knew it, before they went to fight for our country, impossible.

This first home is made possible by generous monetary donations from individuals and corporations from every state in the US, companies such as Texas Roadhouse of New England who has coordinated many fundraisers and events throughout the year to benefit Homes for Our Troops, Simonton Windows who donated the windows for the first four home projects, HyLite Products, and Style Solutions for interior products as well. There has also been an outpouring of support from smaller companies and individuals who have graciously donated their professional labor to help build and adapt these homes for our veterans.

The participants of the ceremony will include Past Commander of the American Legion, Jake Comer, John Gonsalves, founder of Homes for Our Troops, The Damon family as well as other members of the organization. A guest speakers are to be determined.

Media coverage will include the Pentagon Channel, Army Times as well as the local and national media.
