Homes for Our Troops has been featured on ABC's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" and on several network and cable news broadcasts for its work to improve the lives of injured service members. This event is open to the media and Gonsalves is available for interview. The DAR Medal of Honor, the group's most prestigious award, is given to an individual who has shown extraordinary qualities of leadership, trustworthiness, service and patriotism. Past recipients include Tom Brokaw, Rudolph Giuliani and Claudia Taylor (Lady Bird) Johnson. The DAR Medal of Honor will be presented to Gonsalves during the National Defense Night ceremonies of the weeklong DAR annual convention, the 115th DAR Continental Congress, where more than 3,000 DAR members will gather at the organization's national headquarters to participate.
