Increase Support to Homes for Our Troops

TAUNTON, MASS. Several of the leading home products brands of Fortune Brands are stepping up support for Homes for Our Troops. Simonton Windows®, Hy-Lite® Products and Fypon® have all reenlisted as Corporate Partners with the non-profit organization that constructs homes specially adapted for returning U.S. veterans who are severely disabled while serving their country. Three additional brands in the Fortune Brands family, Dixie-Pacific™, Moen and Aristokraft® Cabinetry have also signed up to join the Homes for Our Troops team.

"These corporate sponsors are donating windows, acrylic block products, synthetic millwork, fiberglass columns, faucets and cabinetry to support our ongoing efforts to build homes for those veterans who have unselfishly given of themselves to our country," according to John Gonsalves, executive director of Homes for Our Troops. "We can never give back to our valiant veterans the many arms and legs they’ve lost at war. However, we can give them secure homes constructed to support the new challenges they face when returning with life-altering disabilities."

Founded in 2004, Homes for Our Troops is currently working on more than a dozen projects across the country for returning severely disabled veterans. The organization has been recognized by President George W. Bush, Daughters of the American Revolution and the PGA Tour for its dedicated efforts to servicemen and women.

"The homes we construct are all built from the heart with volunteer labor and products," says Gonsalves. "There is never a cost to a recipient veteran. We’re trying to tackle the overwhelming housing needs of severely disabled veterans one home at a time."

As a returning corporate sponsor, Simonton Windows has donated dozens of ENERGY STAR® qualified low-maintenance vinyl windows for four different project homes. Fypon has contributed urethane millwork and moulding pieces for the interior and exterior of several homes. Hy-Lite Products has offered acrylic block walls and windows to homes with privacy issues. As it starts its commitment to the program, Dixie-Pacific will contribute low-maintenance fiberglass columns for the interior and exterior of homes. Moen will provide kitchen and bathroom faucets, while Aristokraft will provide kitchen cabinetry. Fortune Brands also has made a corporate cash donation to the organization to support its ongoing efforts.

"The Fortune Brands family has stepped up with a commitment to donate products to a wide variety of home projects," says Gonsalves. "These Corporate Partners serve as an example of what corporate responsibility can do to improve the lives of others. We value both the products and support they bring to our organization."
