PLYMOUTH, Mass. -- Hundreds of volunteers came together in Plymouth to help a veteran injured in Iraq rebuild part of his life. Volunteers from Homes For Our Troops, a Taunton-based nonprofit organization that builds new, specially equipped houses for injured veterans, are building a home for Sgt. Brian Fountaine. Fountain was injured in an improvised explosive device blast in Iraq. "When you first get injured, you don't know what was going to happen when you get back home, how much support you are going to get or how the community was going to take you in. Ever since day one, it has been 110 percent," he said. After six months of hammering out the plans, the structure will be built in just three days. "It is about the American dream. It is what all Americans want, and who deserves it more than the people who fight to protect our freedom to live the American dreams?" said John Gonsalves, of Homes For Our Troops. The organization is currently working on 20 houses for veterans nationwide. "It is wonderful. I mean, whatever anybody can do. It went up so fast. It is nice to see that this many people come together and really build something that will matter to somebody," volunteer Megan Grenier said. With the help of donations and volunteers, the organization can build Fountaine's home for about $5,000.
