Volunteers Give Vet New Home

Homes For Our Troops Gave New Home To Vet

May 17, 2008

ROSS TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- Local volunteers gave wounded war veteran James Fair a new home Saturday.

Homes For Our Troops organized more than 100 volunteers as they built the home in Ross Township for Fair, who lost his sight and both hands when a mine exploded in Iraq.

Contractors took Fair’s disabilities into account when they built the home, which is equipped with a number of voice- and motion-activated features.

Fair can control the temperature, water, and alarm systems with simple verbal commands.

Homes for our Troops has now built 26 homes across the U-S for troops.

James Fair's house was a partnership involving Home for our Troops, Duquesne Light and the Pittsburgh Home and Garden Show.
