Severely Injured Colorado Veteran to Receive Home from Homes for Our Troops

Non-profit group announces successful completion of SSG Matthew Keil’s specially adapted home thanks to efforts of community and corporate sponsors

September 19, 2008

Parker, Colorado -- Homes for Our Troops, is a Massachusetts based 501 (c)(3) organization that provides specially adapted homes for our most severely wounded veterans, and does so at no cost to the veteran. Homes for Our Troops has completed this, its 32nd specially adapted home, for SSG Matt Keil.

SSG Matthew Keil volunteered for his first tour (in Iraq) because he was single and had hoped to take the place of someone either married or had kids. However, on his second tour in Iraq, the newly married 25 year old soldier was hit by sniper fire near Ramadi, Iraq in February, 2007. The injury left him a quadriplegic, though he has regained some use of his left arm.

Homes for Our Troops has built SSG Keil’s specially adapted home to specifically address the day to day challenges he now faces and provide him with maximum independence in the place he can now call home. Homes for Our Troops has completed 32 homes through out the US and has an additional 25 projects in various stages of construction. SSG Keil’s home is the third home that has been completed in CO. In December, 2007 work was completed in Park County on the home of Sgt Chris Fesmire and SSG Travis Strong’s home in Golden, CO was completed in August of this year in conjunction with Credit Union National Association and the Democratic National Convention.

Homes for Our Troops is proud to be listed in the American Institute of Philanthropy’s top rated Veterans & Military Charities, and is a member of the US Green Building Council.

Homes for Our Troops, President & Founder, John Gonsalves, will hold a press conference at 12249 Grand Mesa Lane, Parker, CO 80138 (Directions attached) at 11:30 am on September 27, 2008 to announce the completion of this project.
