Local solider having home built

April 30, 2008

A local Iraq war veteran will soon be getting a new home, thanks to a national non-profit.

But the group Homes for our Troops needs your help to make that dream come true for Corporal Wesley Barrientos.

Corporal Wesley Barrientos say this is a dream come true, he told 17 News he is honored to be part of the Homes for our Troops organization.

Now they need volunteers to build the home that will be located in northwest Bakersfield.

"They are volunteering for me, but they are also volunteering for other veterans," said Barrientos.

"Everyone I've met from Homes for Troops are great people."

Thursday Homes for our Troops were recruiting future volunteers to work on the home in Bakersfield.

Barrientos was wounded in the war in Iraq, both of his legs were amputated.

Building a home for Barrinetos would grant him greater mobility, and a place for he and his family to grow.

"We think they should get great medical care and a home they can get around in." siad Tom Bennoit, with Homes for our Troops.
