Homes for Our Troops to build houses for disabled veterans

Three wounded soldiers from the San Antonio area will have specialty homes built for them in the Harvest Hills subdivision in Marion, Texas.

Marion is located just east of San Antonio. The houses will be built by Homes for Our Troops, an organization made up of hundreds of volunteers and professional trades people. For three days, workers will build the houses. Jack Uptmore from Uptmore Custom Homes will oversee the construction of the three homes, which will take place April 30 through May 2.

Dunkin’ Donuts and the Baskin Robbins Community Foundation are sponsors of the building project.

Marine Cpl. Jose Perez suffered multiple injuries from an IED explosion in Fallujah, Iraq, and returned home a paraplegic. Marine Cpl. Neil Frustaglio returned home a double amputee after the vehicle he was riding hit an IED in Ar Ramadi, Iraq. Army Sgt. Nathan Hunt lost both legs in Baghdad when an IED exploded under his vehicle.

Homes for Our Troops will make sure the homes are barrier-free and adapted for each man’s injuries.

"This is a monumental project to construct three barrier-free specially adapted homes all in one weekend," says Homes for Our Troops founder John Gonsalves. "We know that hundreds of volunteers and professional tradespeople will show up at our Texas 3 Star Build Brigade to not only help build these homes but to also come to personally thank Marine Cpl. Jose Perez, Marine Cpl. Neil Frustaglio and Army Sgt. Nathan Hunt and their families for their service and sacrifice on our behalf."
