Homes for Our Troops Founder and President to Receive Prestigious Award for Service to Nation’s Military
Taunton, Mass. — Homes for Our Troops (www.homesforourtroops.org), a national non-profit organization building specially adapted homes for severely injured veterans is extremely proud to announce President and Founder John S. Gonsalves has been selected to receive the 2011 Zachary and Elizabeth Fisher Distinguished Civilian Humanitarian Award. The presentation will be held Monday, September 26, during a ceremony in the Pentagon's Hall of Heroes. The honor will be bestowed by Secretary of the Army John McHugh.
The Zachary and Elizabeth Fisher Distinguished Civilian Humanitarian Award was established in 1996, named in honor of Zachary and Elizabeth Fisher for their extensive contributions to the support and welfare of service members and their families.
In 1998, a joint regulation established the award as a multiservice recognition demonstrating exceptional patriotism and humanitarian concern for service members and their families. Recipients must exemplify the Fisher's patriotic qualities, generosity and selfless dedication to improving the quality of life for service members.

Homes for Our Troops is based in Taunton, Mass., and was founded by Gonsalves in 2004. Homes for Our Troops mission is to build specially adapted homes for service members who have been severely injured in combat operations since September 11, 2001. All homes are built at no cost to the veteran through the generous support of individuals, foundations, and corporate contributors.
