Army CPL Jeffery Williams was on his first deployment when he was paralyzed from the chest down in an explosion in Iraq in May 2004. While on a mission with the Marines, CPL Williams' platoon was attacked when an IED slammed into the HUMMVEE he was riding in, killing two of his battle buddies and severely injuring him and a fellow soldier. Transported to a local hospital, then airlifted to Landstuhl, Germany, CPL Williams was later flown to Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Scot Noss

Army SSG Scot Noss was injured on February 18, 2007 when the Chinook helicopter he was riding in crashed in the mountains of Southern Afghanistan. Eight of the twenty-two service members did not survive the crash. Scot was the most severely injured, suffering from Traumatic Brain Injury. After being stabilized in Germany, Scot was transferred to Bethesda Naval Hospital in Maryland and later to the James A. Haley Medical Center in Tampa, FL where he remains at this time. Marine Sgt. Gregory Edwards took his last step on Oct. 21, 2006. Alpha Company was on patrol in Ramadi, Iraq, conducting house-to-house searches when a hidden explosive detonated. The blast left Sgt Edwards a double amputee with a shattered left hand. He has endured 37 surgeries and a painful physical regimen that he devised himself to strengthen the tender stumps that end just above his knees.
