SPC Brett Bondurant
Lawrenceburg, IN
Army Specialist Brett Bondurant was five months into his first deployment when he lost his right leg above the knee and his left leg below the knee in an IED blast in the Southwest Kandahar Provence, Afghanistan on September 28, 2011.
Acting as the minesweeper while clearing a compound of suspected IED’s, SPC Bondurant had just stepped into a darkened room…his second step triggered the pressure plate of an IED; the blast traumatically amputating his right leg above the knee and his left leg below the knee. He also suffered severe injuries to both arms. Minutes later, the medic knelt down to administer aide to SPC Bondurant and triggered another IED; the blast throwing SPC Bondurant through the air for a second time.
