SGT Cameron Crouch

Mahomet, IL

Army SGT Cameron Crouch was deployed to Iraq as part of the A Co. 1/178th Infantry when he was severely injured in an accident on August 23, 2007. While working as part of a platoon overseeing witnesses and detainees at the Central Criminal Court in Baghdad, a rooftop caved-in, plunging SGT Crouch seventy feet to the ground. As a result of landing on his feet on a marble floor, Cameron suffered devastating injuries to both of his legs requiring nearly 20 surgeries including the amputation of both legs below the knee.

After first being treated in Baghdad, SGT Crouch was airlifted to Landstuhl, Germany before being sent to Walter Reed. His hospitalization continued at the Hines Veterans Hospital in Chicago until he was moved to Brooke Army Medical Center in Texas where he continues to receive treatment today while living at the Fisher House.

An avid sportsman, SGT Crouch enjoys basketball and golf as well as skeet and pistol shooting. His future goals include attending college; possibly focusing on Healthcare as a career field, marrying his fiance, Christy Burge and raising a family in his home state of Illinois.

Homes for Our Troops is proud to have presented this beautiful home to Cameron and Christy on January 23, 2010. A home that they can call their own and that will allow him to move freely and become more independent.
