Medically evacuated by helicopter, Jordan went into cardiac arrest numerous times, while enroute, requiring the medical crew to perform a resuscitative thoracotomy (the manual pumping of his heart by hand). Treated at the field hospital in Deleram, Afghanistan, Cpl. Maynard was next transported to Landstuhl, Germany before arriving at Bethesda Naval Medical Center where he remained for a month enduring surgeries and rehabilitation before being transferred to Balboa Naval Medical Center in San Diego where he receives treatments and therapies at this time.

Cpl. Maynard and his wife, Jennifer look forward to family time with their young son and are active members of their church. A member of the American Legion, Jordan enjoys hand cycling and driving remote control vehicles with his son. Jordan aspires to live a healthy lifestyle and provide the same for his family. He is looking forward to being there for his son, more than he has been in the past…he is grateful to be given the opportunity to be an involved and active parent.

When asked what receiving a specially adapted home from Homes for Our Troops would mean to him, Cpl. Maynard shared the following, “Everyone works their entire lives to be happy. I was willing to sacrifice whatever was necessary to be sure my family’s future was secure. After losing my legs, my stress and anxiety have been centered on finding a comfortable, safe, permanent place where I could live with my family. Whether you realize this or not, you are changing lives…just the thought of what you are doing for me and others makes me happy!”
