Cpl Jose "Daniel" Gasca

El Paso, TX

Marine Corporal Daniel Gasca was left a double amputee after an IED explosion in Fallujah, Iraq in September 2008. Cpl Gasca was driving an up-armored HUMVEE when it was hit by a control detonated IED. Cpl Gasca suffering from spinal fractures, broken ribs, a ruptured spleen, and leg injuries so severe that both of his legs required amputation. Transported first to Ballad, he was later airlifted to Landstuhl, Germany and finally to Walter Reed where he remains at this time.

Cpl Gasca, his wife, Angel, and their sons; 3 year old Mathew and newborn Eli, are presently living in non-handicapped housing while Daniel continues his treatments and therapies at Walter Reed. They are anxiously awaiting the birth of their second child. Cpl Gasca enjoys diving and playing golf. He played football prior to his injuries.

Daniel is active in his church and would like to further his education in the technology field, eventually becoming a Systems Security Engineer. He says that Homes for Our Troops has given him a lot of hope and joy as he looks to the future and living in a handicapped accessible home. When asked if he would like to thank the volunteers who are working to help make his home possible he shared the following:

"Thank you for your support... it is people like you that make this country great. Seeing the many people stepping up to help makes me feel proud to know that they will always stand behind us no matter what."
