Joshua Wells

Army SPC Joshua Wells was left a double amputee above the knees after an EFP attack in Iraq in November 2007. After volunteering to swap duties with a comrade, SPC Wells was injured while driving a Stryker vehicle on a routine refueling mission. Following a lead vehicle, SPC Wells was passing through an Iraqi Army checkpoint when 4 Explosively Formed Penetrators (EFP’s) were detonated, immobilizing the Stryker vehicle.

Looking down after the explosion, SPC Wells realized that both of his legs were missing. A team member pulled him from the vehicle while a medic applied tourniquets preparing SPC Wells for medevac. First airlifted to Balad, Iraq, SPC Wells was immediately flown to Landstuhl, Germany and finally to Brook Army Medical Center in Texas where he began his recuperation and rehabilitation.

SPC Wells enjoys spending time with his girlfriend and their new infant daughter, Kacy, and their families. He enjoys the Martial Arts, hunting, and video games. Joshua’s future goal is to "live a long healthy life, walking and living with friends and family. My goal is to live life a little more each day. I have learned to take life one day at a time."

A specially adapted home will allow SPC Wells continue to focus on his recovery and his future. Speaking about the difficulties faced by injured service members, Joshua shared the following; "It's very difficult to find a home to rent or buy that has sufficient accommodations for my situation. My HFOT home will make the daily necessities easier for me due to the handicap accessibility."

Thank you to all who supported the SPC Joshua Wells project! We could not have completed this home without your help!
