SFC Roy Mitchell was serving in Afghanistan when was severely injured on November 23, 2004. He was riding in a regular Humvee that was not equipped with up-armored modifications with 11 other soldiers and embedded reporters. On the day before Thanksgiving in 2003, on his second deployment to Afghanistan, the vehicle he was riding in hit an anti-tank mine along the Pakistani border.

SGT Jeffrey Guerin was 2 days short of his 22nd birthday that literally called life to explode before his eyes. His vehicle was ambushed and destroyed by an IED while conducting a security patrol. Fellow members of the small patrol aggressively fought the Taliban attackers, secured the area and began medical treatment for those injured.

Lance Cpl Mark Beyers of Elma, NY was severely injured by an IED while on foot patrol in Hit, Iraq. The explosion took his right arm and right leg and suffered damage to his hearing as well as other injuries and complications.
