SGT Nathan Hunt

Marion, TX

Army SGT Nathan Hunt lost both of his legs while on a routine Route Clearance Mission in Baghdad, Iraq in May 2008. Escorting a convoy while searching for roadside bombs, SGT Hunt saw a flash as a bomb exploded hurtling him across his vehicle. SGT Hunt aided his colleagues as they worked to apply tourniquets to his legs which had been blown off by the explosion.

Conscious throughout his evacuation, SGT Hunt was transferred to the nearest aid station before being first transported by helicopter to a nearby hospital and later airlifted to Landstuhl where his initial surgeries began. Subsequent surgeries were performed at Walter Reed Army Medical Center before SGT Hunt was airlifted to Brooke Army Medical Center to begin his rehabilitation. He has spent the past year rehabilitating at the Center For the Intrepid in Fort Sam Houston, TX.

Nathan is the father of two daughters, ages 8 and 12. He enjoys spending time with his wife and children; being near, and spending time with his family is the most important thing to him. Some of his favorite things are swimming, biking, woodworking and doing crafts with his family. SGT Hunt is working to complete his college degree with dreams to be a High School Math teacher.

SGT Hunt looks forward to living in a specially adapted home so that his daily living challenges will be improved. Wide doorways and a handicapped accessible bathroom will allow him more independence and freedom of mobility. He looks forward to once again sharing the household responsibilities with his wife.
