Marine Corporal Brandon Rumbaugh was on his second deployment when he lost both of his legs in an IED blast in Helmand Province, Afghanistan on November 29, 2010. Just returned to an outpost from a combat patrol with the 1st Battalion, 8th Marines, Cpl Rumbaugh was responding to the scene of an IED blast involving one of his good friends just outside the compound.
Zachary Stinson

Marine Sergeant Zachary Stinson was on his first deployment when he lost both of his legs above the knee and suffered severe damage to his hands in an IED blast in Marjah, Afghanistan on November 9, 2010. While on a foot patrol with the 2nd Battalion, 9th Marines, Sgt. Stinson stepped on an IED resulting in the traumatic amputations of his right leg below the knee and his left leg above the knee. Lifesaving measures by the corpsman readied him for MEDEVAC while shots were fired and a gun battle ensued.
David Noblit

Marine Corporal David Noblit, Jr. was on his second deployment when he lost both of his legs above the knees, and suffered severe damage to his left arm in an IED blast in Sangin, Afghanistan on October 21, 2010. What had started as a normal day found Cpl. Noblit on a morning patrol. A “local” told the squad’s interpreter that insurgents had been placing IED’s in a compound nearby.

Army SSG Earl Granville was on his third deployment when a roadside bomb left him with severe leg injuries in Zormat, Afghanistan, on June 3, 2008. While returning to the Forward Operating Base after a mission, SSG Granville, the gunner of the vehicle at the time, was thrown from the vehicle when a roadside bomb exploded, killing 2 of the other passengers
Robert J. Kislow III

While on combat patrols in Afghanistan near the Pakistan border, his team was on a mission to search out aggressive Taliban forces in the mountainous area. Attacked by a large group of Taliban fighters, SPC Kislow received five gunshots to his body causing multiple serious injuries.
David Emery

Marine Sgt David Emery was critically wounded in Iraq on February 7, 2007 when a suicide bomber detonated a bomb at a secured checkpoint. Sgt Emery had been assigned to assist with securing the area while high ranking officers were at the checkpoint location. Upon completion of the mission, the bomb exploded, killing 7 people; U.S. Marines, Iraqi Soldiers and civilians among the casualties.
James Fair

James Fair's story is one that's heard on almost a daily basis: a U.S. soldier in Iraq sustains a life-altering injury due to an enemy munition. Fair was stringing barbed wire around an ammunition supply point in Fallujah, Iraq, in November 2003 when he stumbled onto a makeshift enemy bomb. He lost the sight in both eyes and both of his hands. Shrapnel severely injured his right leg and caused a traumatic brain injury.
Pisey Tan

SGT Tan is a 25 year old hero who hails from the Olney Section of North Philadelphia. While serving in the United States Army, Sergeant Tan was deployed twice to Iraq. During his second deployment with the 3rd Battalion, 69th Armored Regiment, Pisey's vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device. The injuries suffered by Pisey forced the eventual amputation of both of his legs.
Sam Ross

Pfc. Ross, a combat engineer with the 82nd Airborne Division, was wounded on May 18, 2003, while disposing of munitions that were wounding and killing Iraqi children in a area near Baghdad. More than two years ago that explosion took his sight, his left leg, part of his hearing and his military career. Homes for Our Troops was contacted by many concerned friends of Sam and he is now enjoying the American dream of home ownership.
