Marine CWO3 Jeffrey Pcola suffered serious injuries including spinal and internal injuries as well as a broken neck, while commanding 24-hour reconnaissance operations in Ad Diwaniyah, Iraq when the convoy in which his vehicle was driving in came under attack on March 27, 2003. While preparing to step from the Fox Reconnaissance Vehicle, an enemy mortar impact within 100 meters blew CWO3 Pcola from the moving vehicle, causing serious injuries.

Army SSG Ronell Bradley was on his third deployment when he lost both of his legs and suffered severe hand injuries when the vehicle he was riding in ran over an IED in Baghdad, Iraq on September 21, 2005. Sitting in the front passenger seat, the IED blast caused SSG Bradley’s weapon to explode in his hand, amputating his thumb and palm; the impact of the blast instantly amputating his right leg and severely injuring his left leg.
