June 20, 2006 was a day that began like most others for Staff Sgt. Andrew Robinson. Andy, a counterintelligence specialist, was embarking on a mission to collect information to aid in the killing, capture, or disturbance of a highly effective insurgent IED cell responsible for several friendly casualties in his unit's battle space. It was that morning that would prove to be unlike any other for Robinson, his wife Sara and his family.

While patrolling in Al Anbar Province, Robinson’s vehicle in the unit’s convoy was involved in an IED attack by the same terrorist cell he was investigating. The roadside bomb was the biggest to date used in Iraq. It completely ripped the front half of the truck off while taking the lives of the driver, vehicle commander and turret gunner. Andy sustained compound fractures to his lower legs, collapsed lungs and a fractured vertebra that left him paralyzed from the chest down with partial paralysis in his arms.

Despite spending seven months in the hospital, undergoing several major surgeries and continuing an aggressive rehabilitation regiment, Andy and his wife Sara continue to move forward with their new appreciation for life.

Sara and I would like to thank Homes for Our Troops and Kojeski Construction for building this house in just five short months. We know that there are hundreds of community members who volunteered, cooked, swung hammers, and did countless other things that made this project possible.

Sara and I would also like to thank the contractors, suppliers, and businesses that donated their materials, equipment, skills, labor and time that made our dream home become a reality. This is more than a house to Sara and I. This is the place where I will study and earn my college degree. When we eventually have children this is the homes we'll bring them to. This is where we will make a ton of memories. This home will always be a testament to the goodness of people and their support of injured veterans and their family members.

Thank you is not a good enough response for what you have all done. We truly are speechless when it comes to our gratitude for this gift that has been given to us.
