Huey Helicopter

Huey HelicopterRide in a Huey!  From The Collings Foundation, Vietnam veterans will pilot each 30 minute excursion on this famous American battleground icon.  The UH-1E Huey was one of the most successful heavy lift and troop transport helicopters ever used. It initially saw combat in Vietnam where its use as an infantry transport craft into the dense jungles made its type famous on television in some of the first news broadcasts from the battlefields. The basic design lasted long beyond Vietnam and is still in use by some National Guard and Reserve units.  Don't miss the opportunity to experience the thrill of this workhorse of the battlefields.

Front seat is $160, all other seats are $110.  There are 5 to 7 passengers at a time, and the ride is approximately 15 minutes.

Rides will be available from approximately 8AM to 5PM on both days.

Rides are on a first-come first-serve basis.

Availability is dependant on the weather, and may be cancelled if the weather makes it unsafe to fly.

Houston Police Department Mounted Officers

HPD Mounted PoliceMeet the Houston Police Department Mounted Officers at the Homes For Our Troops Second Annual Sporting Clays Tournament presented by Energy Corporation of America.  The Houston Police Department revived the combination of the horse and Patrol Officer in 1984 with the establishment of the Mounted Patrol Unit.

Some of the situations include but are not limited too; Super Bowl XXXVIII, the Houston Rockets Championship Parades, the Galveston Mardi Gras, the Republican National Convention, and the Baseball All-Star Game 2004. The Mounted Patrol Detail was an integral factor in the success of these events, and will continue to be a needed asset as more large special events are scheduled in the City of Houston.

Friday only, at the Homes For Our Troops Second Annual Sporting Clays Tournament, the Mounted Officers will explain the duties of a Mounted Officer, and demonstrate the effectiveness of the horse in a law enforcement capacity.
