SGM Jesse Acosta
SGM Jesse Acosta lost his eyesight the morning of January 16, 2006 when a mortar hit twenty meters away. Just one piece of shrapnel severed both his optical nerves. He underwent 10 hours of emergency surgery that day to remove his right eye and to stabilize multiple facial fractures.

SGT Jason Nielson of Harington, DE was severely wounded while serving in Iraq with the Army. In Baghdad City, Iraq Jason was on security patrol after responding to an RPG attack when a sniper shot him in the side of the body.

On April 21st, 2004, while serving in Iraq, Corporal Visnu Gonzalez was shot by a sniper, severing his spinal cord in the C-6, C-7 level. He also received a shot to his left subclavian artery that caused severe bleeding and near death. Despite surgery to stabilize his vertebra, today, Cpl Gonzalez remains paralyzed from the upper chest down.
